Lila Inez Forgey

Lila Inez (Woody) Forgey, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 29, 2022.

She was born on June 10, 1933, in Bridgeport, Alabama and was a member of Silverdale Baptist Church.

 She was preceded in death by her husband, James Atlee Forgey Sr,; her parents, Rev. P.S. Woody and Katherine Cramer Woody; two brothers, Phillip H (Buddy) Woody, and Doyle M Woody.

Lila was a member of the 1951 Tyner High School class. She worked as a nurse for over 30 years and had a special love for the elderly. She worked at Hamilton County Nursing home, Alexian Brothers, Lifecare of East Ridge, and private duty.

Her father Rev. P.S. Woody was pastor at New Bethel Baptist Church in Harrison TN when she met the love of her life James Atlee Forgey Sr. They were married 49 years when he passed. They were devoted church workers and enjoyed a life serving the Lord.

She is survived by three children, Lynn Forgey (Mike) Steele , James A (Jennie). Forgey Jr., and Danny (Paula) Forgey ; nine grandchildren, Micah (Lora) Steele, Ross (Betty) Steele, Karen (Shane) Monday, Lindsey (Matt) Corey, Chris (Kristi) Allen , Megan Forgey, McClain (Brett) Baggett , Jordan and Tiffany Ashton;her surviving siblings are sisters, Nell Carmichael and Hazel Johnson; and brother, Hobert (Ann)Woody.

In her later years the joy of her life was being surrounded by her great grandchildren. Kristen, Parker, Sydney, Riley and  Eli Steele, Gwen and Kerrigan Monday, Mason Allen, Lyla, Solomon, Huck, Grey, and Evangeline Baggett.

Services will be Saturday, December 3rd at 3:30 pm in the funeral home chapel  with Rev. Mike Steele and Rev. Jack Rinks officiating.

The family will receive friends Saturday, December 3rd from 1 PM until 3:30 PM at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Adoration Hospice of Chattanooga.

A graveside service will be held Monday, December 5th at 12 noon at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
